From the supplier: Contrary to misconceptions about the dominant capital positions held by direct writing reinsurers and the flight to quality in the reinsurance sector, the broker-channel reinsurers are showing considerable strength and vitality. Despite such disasters as Northridge, Iniki, and Andrew in the period between 1991 and 1996, broker-channel reinsurers have demonstrated an average annual gain in surplus of 14.9%, versus an average of 8.4% for six US direct writers.
