From the supplier: Reinsurance Assoc of America (RAA) statistics show that the reinsurance industry is marked by a consolidation trend that is giving most of the business to a few highly capitalized companies. The RAA found that American Re, Employers Re and General Re wrote $5.8 billion, or 42%, of the total reinsurance premiums written by its 54 survey respondents. It also found that the five largest US companies wrote over half of the reinsurance business. This trend is expected to continue and possibly accelerate through 2000.
