Need To Know Basis May 24, 2008 This books covers most of what pilots in 1944 needed to know. It's the basics for any AAF (Army Air Force) pilot or flight engineer of the time. It covers things such as safety, technical orders, taxiing and takeoffs, spin recovery, radio and communication procedures, weather conditions, engines and fuel systems, ditching, and care for your airplane.
If you loved Baa Baa Black Sheep, Midway, Twelve O'Clock High, Tora! Tora! Tora!, Memphis Belle, Pearl Harbor, or other great WWII military aircraft films and wanted to know what "those boys had to know back then" then this is the book for you.
Pilots Information File 1944: The Authentic World War II Guidebook for Pilots and Flight Engineers (Schiffer Military History) February 25, 2006 An excellent publication that recreates for the reader an exact copy of a Pilots Information Manual from World War Two. Not only is it a wealth of historical information it contains much data that is relevant to the modern day aviator. As a private pilot myself I found some of the topics in various chapters a "refresher" if you will - such as weather related to aviation, emergency procedures, etc. The only thing missing is a period cover for the publication in lieu of the modern laminated style... Excellent for the collector!
